Lifting and Back Injuries
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), overexertion was the nation’s leading injury or illness in the workplace, accounting for 34% of all workplace injuries or illnesses. The BLS also concluded that the back was the leading body part affected, making up 18.2% of total cases. Although no approach has completely eliminated back injuries, a substantial portion can be minimized by incorporating an effective control program along with an ergonomics analysis and design of work tasks.
The video, Stop and Think to Avoid Back Pain is specifically written for governmental entities. Another video, Safe Patient Lifting for Emergency Responders addresses these issues for Police, Fire and Ambulance Corps. Any governmental entity may down load and use these videos.
